Geek Art Exposure

You know how some people want to be on the Die Line or Lovely Package.

Well I wanted to be on Geek-Art! And today I checked my website email on a whim and got this:



This is brilliant! Ok, so I'm refereed to as 'he' but, it's the internet. Whoever did the poster for BAGD movies were also on here a few months ago and when I saw that, I knew what site I wanted to be featured on.

Hand Drawn Awesome

A few days ago I got an email through my website saying they 'had an offer for me.' I literally thought it was junk mail at first but the impulsive side of me clicked on it and I'm most certainly glad I did.

Hand Drawn Awesome is a relatively new website dedicated to delving into the world of indie, small press, web and creator-owned comics. They aim to expose the works of creators new and old to a wider audience and maybe, just maybe introduce people to some stuff they might never have considered or taken a chance on before.

And today Chris emailed me back saying I was the December feature: Link!

Hand Drawn Awesome

Thought Bubble Comic Con

Yesterday was the Thought Bubble comic convention here in Leeds, Uk. It was amazing.

I was on staff so I'd had less than 4 hours sleep thanks to Harry Potter 7.1 the night before and was at the Royal Armories for 7am. But I was not going to let that spoil my day.

Got to show Leigh Gallager (of Defoe 1666) to his table.
Him: Oh, hi I'm Leigh. *as I'm looking for his banner*
Me: Oh I know, me too!
Him: L-e-i-g-h?
Me: yes!
Him: =D


At the end of the day I got him to sign my staff top as well as Adi Granov (X-men, Extremist Iron Man.) Was a gopher for the panelists, offered John Romita Jr (Kick-Ass) water and coffee (to the jealousy of a fan boy who was stood behind me) and the same with Brian Talbot. There were tonnes of other great artists there too but I didn't really get that much of a chance to stop and ponder about. It was a brilliant busy day and someone out there has a photograph of me reading volume 7 of the boy's as I was positioned out side the cloak room for an hour. I'm not sure who he is and I only looked up after he grinned and ran away. So Kudos to you, creepy photographer.










Jared, of OK comics, also snapped a picture of me looking quite annoyed that I had been left to watch the Self Made table while he went and moved the van. However, I left my email and website with them and they are currently looking for interns.

I was hoping to go to the after party but when I went home to change and eat, closed my eyes for all of ten minutes and woke up at midnight. Ahh well, I still had a brilliant day, got tonnes of back issue comic books and shook some brilliant hands.

I'm so looking forward to next year when I'll hopefully have a table with my own work on.

DA Portfolio

So I keep forgetting I have a Deviant Art Portfolio. I'm currently using it instead of a website (Which is something I hope to work on over Reading Week). It's basic and a bit boring but it's a great place to showcase my work.

What I want to do!

What I WANT to do in the 3rd year and why?

• To create comic books.
  : Because it's the area of design I want to head into! It deals with character design, narrative and how composition working with a structured layout. It's also fun!

• Character Design (Toy design)
  :I really enjoy trying to push personality into my designs and bring illustrations to life. I'm also a story teller whose quick at coming up with characters and what they're about.

• Type as image
  : Though still quite structured in term of typography I feel there's ore freedom with type as image. I don't want to completely write of typography as it's something that is essential to the type of design I want to head into.

• Apparel (clothing)
  : A media that is appropriate for the design I create.

• Children's Books
  : Not everything I want to do is completely about comic books and that kind of structure. I find childrens books can be just as interesting and creative with the idea of using more space for illustrations and simpler (yet affective) story telling.
  

What I DON'T want to do in the 3rd year and why?

• Website Design/coding
  : I would happily illustrate or design something to be incorporated into a website but as far as layout and coding goes it doesn't interest me. It's not creative enough for me. It's also not something that would hold my attention for very long.

• Technical typography
  : As much as I appreciate a well structured piece of typography it's not what I am drawn toward. It's too fiddly and precise.

• Animation/motion graphic
  As much as I adore cartoons/watching them it's not something I'm interested in working with. I'll happily design the characters for animation but as far as the animating process goes (and working with such programs as flash and after effects) It's not my area of interest.

• Corporate design
  : I wasn't sure how to word this one. I would never be interested in making a branding or a logo for some big corporate business or a bank.
